7 Common Mistakes Made at the Gym

Avoiding common mistakes in the gym is crucial for achieving your fitness goals efficiently and minimizing the risk of injury.

Here are some common mistakes to watch out for:

💪🏽Skipping Warm-Up: Failing to warm up before exercising can lead to injuries. Warm-up helps increase blood flow, flexibility, and prepares your muscles and joints for the upcoming workout.

💪🏽Poor Form: Using improper form during exercises increases the risk of injury and diminishes the effectiveness of the workout. Take the time to learn proper form for each exercise, and don’t sacrifice it for heavier weights.

💪🏽Lifting Too Much Weight: Trying to lift weights that are too heavy can compromise your form and increase the risk of injury. Start with a weight that challenges you without sacrificing proper technique.

💪🏽Over training: Working out excessively without adequate rest and recovery can lead to burnout, fatigue, and increased risk of injury. Allow your body time to recover between intense workouts.

💪🏽Neglecting Cardiovascular Exercise: While strength training is important, neglecting cardiovascular exercise can impact your overall health. Include a mix of both strength training and cardiovascular activities in your fitness routine.

💪🏽Poor Nutrition: Neglecting proper nutrition can hinder your progress. Fuel your body with a balanced diet that includes the right mix of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals to support your fitness goals.

💪🏽Lack of Rest and Recovery: Recovery is essential for muscle growth and overall well-being. Ensure you get enough sleep, and incorporate rest days into your routine to allow your body to recover.

As we get older we tend to adapt a more sedentary lifestyle. We move less, eat worse and also our hormones change which will all affect muscle mass loss. 1. Sedentary lifestyle - IF YOU DONT USE IT YOU LOSE IT. If you don’t continue to exercise and keep up your habits, you will lose muscle mass as you age. Give your muscle a reason to stay and continue to adapt. 2. Hormones- As we age (especially as men) our hormones (Testosterone) decrease, which can lead to a decrease in muscle mass and strength. If your starting to notice drop in energy, not sleeping as well, motivation isn’t there, brain fog- these are all signs of low testosterone. Get your bloods done to check. 3. Poor Food choices: Protein is key to the maintenance and building of muscle tissue. So an inadequate protein intake will lead to a decrease in muscle mass and strength. This along with the fact our metabolism also naturally decreases is a sure sign that muscle loss will occur if your not careful. To ensure you don’t lose muscle as you age: 1. Keep up STRENGTH training. Focus on compound movements. Hinge, press and squats. 2. Quality nutrition. Nutrition is more and more important as we age. It will help with maintaining muscle mass, energy levels, inflammation in the body, sleep, recovery. 3. Stay active. Ensure your getting out 2-4 times per week either for a walk, run, jog, treadmill, cycle etc. keep your cardiovascular system ready! If you need help with any of the above.
